Just as the spider weaves a web, so too must we weave our own lives. The spider serves as a reminder that our choices construct our own lives.
Spiders and their webs draw attention to our life choices while giving us an overview of how we can manipulate our thinking in order to construct the life we wish to live. The spider beckons us to be mindful of our behaviors – be smart about the life we weave for ourselves.
Spiders are also a symbol of mystery, power and growth.
Jamaica has a mythical spider character called Anansi, he came to Jamaica with the kidnapped Africans that were forced to work on the sugar plantations. He left Africa as a Spider god and in Jamaica he lost his godlike powers, but his powers in the New World was his wit and mind and the ability to out smart his antagonists using strategy.
